Every year since 2008, the Centre has held the “Three Shadows Photography Award” to highlight the new face of Chinese contemporary photography. Geared towards those Chinese photographers and ardent photo enthusiasts living both domestically and abroad, a panel of international judges is invited to select forth one grand prize winner and one winner of the Shiseido prize. Already in its seventh year, over 3000 Chinese photographers living all over the world have submitted their works for consideration, and 177 photographers have been selected to have their work exhibited at Three Shadows. The annual “Three Shadows Photography Award” has attracted the attention of an increasing number of young photographers, with many using it as their entry point onto the professional path of photography and active participation in the field of contemporary art.
In 2009, Three Shadows entered a three-year collaboration with Les Rencontres d’Arles to organize the highly successful “Arles in Beijing—Caochangdi PhotoSpring” international photography festival.
